Healthy Skin Barrier Secrets: The Ultimate Guide for Acne-Prone, Sensitive Skin

Your skin acts up and you feel like everything makes you break out? Even the calming and soothing skin care products give you inflamed acne and white heads? If your skin burns and stings you probably have a broken skin barrier. STOP EXFOLIATING! You are suffering from hormonal acne because you stopped using birth control?

In that case I have some recommendation for you that helped me break that cycle. I tried a lot of products and wasted a lot of money so you don't have to. And we don't gate keep ;) I will give you tipps on products, habits and more that can help you to keep your skin in check! :)

Habits for a better skin barrier:

  • Pillowcases: Switch out your pillow cases more often. Your skin loses oil and bacteria over night which can make your pillow case dirty and worsen your skin over night. Satin pillow cases will help you with this problem even more cause the satin will not exfoliate your skin unknowingly over night like a cotton one might do. It is also good for your hair. If you tend to get more acne on your chin it might also be that you pull your blanket all the way up to your chin. In this case I'll recommend switching out your entire bedding to satin.

  • Brush your teeth first!: Brush your teeth before you do your skincare because leftover tooth paste around your mouth might also be a cause for breakouts.

  • Do not use Towels!: You cleansed your face and wat to dry it? Do not rub towels over your face! They contain dirt and bacteria and basically exfoliate your face unknowingly. Instead get one of these micro fibre face clothes and pat you face dry carefully. Don't forget to wash those regularly

  • Shampoo: Make sure that your shampoo or other hair care isn't the reason you are breaking out. Change to something simple for sensitive skin/hair. Also leave-in products can be the cause of back acne. If you are cleansing your face in the shower, do it after you washed your hair.

  • Exfoliating: STOP OVER EXFOLIATING! This is probably how I messed up my skin barrier. Just stop doing it at all and once your skin barrier is healthy again do it evry once in a while.

  • Spearmint Tea: Speamint tea helps balancing your hormones ans really helped me with my hormonal acne. I drink it especially during those times when I usually get those nasty hurtful and inflamed pimples at that time of the month.

Skin care:

These are the products that worked for me and my skin. Everyones skin is different so these might work for you or they might not. My skin is acne prone and oily and I am suffering from hormonal acne.
